Neang is a 68-year-old retired vegetable farmer from Cambodia. She is a loving mother to six children and grandmother to twelve grandchildren. Neang has been a widow for many years and lives with her youngest daughter, who works at a garment factory. While her daughter is at work, Neang looks after her grandchildren and helps out around the house. In her free time, she enjoys watching Khmer movies on television.
A year ago, Neang developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. She is also worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Neang learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On October 11th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help raising $253 to fund her procedure and care.
Neang shared, “I hope after surgery I can see clearly. I would like to recognize my family’s faces and help my daughter do housework well.”
