Eliya, a four-month-old boy living in Uganda, was brought to the hospital by his mother with diarrhea and respiratory symptoms. There, he was diagnosed with Marasmus-type malnutrition - severe malnutrition caused by energy deficiency.
Eliya and his parents, Elizabeth and Alex, are members of a tribe in Uganda. Originally, their tribe were forest dwellers, but since the forest they lived in became a national park, they were no longer allowed to live there. Tribe members, including Eliya’s parents, have struggled to adapt to a farming lifestyle.
As such, Elizabeth and Alex cannot afford to pay for Eliya’s treatment. However, with $375, Eliya will receive the treatment that he needs to address his symptoms of malnutrition and provide him with nutritional supplementation moving forward. His doctors are optimistic that Eliya will make a complete recovery.

Eliya received successful malnutrition treatment.
Eliya was very sick with malnutrition when he arrived at the hospital, but is now well on the road to recovery. He has returned to his village with his mother, Elizabeth, but will be visiting the hospital regularly to pick up nutritional food until he reaches his goal weight. During his hospital stay, his mother learned how to cook nutritional meals for Eliya when at home in their village.
Elizabeth is very grateful for the treatment and support. She says, “It makes me so happy to have Eliya healthy again. Thank you for everything.”
