Yen is a 70-year-old merchant from Cambodia. She has one daughter who sells clothes at a fish market. Yen sells toiletries at a mobile stall nearby. Her husband died many years ago during the Khmer Rouge. Yen told us how much she enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio.
About one year ago, Yen developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, photophobia, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Yen learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled there with her daughter seeking treatment. On December 24th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Yen said, “I hope after surgery I can see well. I want to be able to read books and help my daughter cook. I hope I can go outside by myself, spend time with my family, and do housework more easily.”
