Sim is a 46-year-old food seller from Cambodia. She and her husband live in Takeo province with their four children. The two older children attend school five hours away in Phnom Penh, while the two younger ones attend school in their province. Her husband is a rice farmer and Sim sells the rice in the local market. Sim enjoys creating new recipes to sell alongside the rice at the market in her free time. One month ago, Sim slipped on a plastic cover and fell to the ground. Her husband took her to a local clinic where an x-ray revealed a dislocation in her right hip, but they were unable to afford the surgery. She is unable to sit and must either stand in pain or lie down. She cannot sell food at the market or cook for her family. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 9th, Sim will undergo a fracture repair procedure for her dislocated hip. Sim will experience relief from her pain and be able to walk and sit again. Sim and her family are able to contribute $100 but need help to raise $383 more to fund the procedure. Sim shared: "I hope to be able to sell food again to support my family."

Meet Jayden, a six-month-old baby boy from Haiti. He is the only child of a single mother. Jayden was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain, and increases intracranial pressure. He was able to undergo one surgery but now needs a follow-up procedure to ensure the fluids are properly draining and not putting pressure on his developing brain. The circumference of Jayden's head has been increasing in size, and if he doesn't receive proper treatment, he will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Jayden. The procedure, scheduled for August 16th at Hospital Bernard Mevs, will drain the excess fluid from Jayden's brain, and reduce intracranial pressure. After his surgery, Jayden's quality of life should improve greatly. With proper support and care, he may grow up strong and healthy. Jayden's mother shared, "I hope for a successful surgery for my son."

Phoeung is a retired rice farmer from Cambodia. He and his wife are from Kompong Cham province and they have three sons, three daughters, and ten grandchildren. They live alone in a traditional Khmer stilted house and are financially supported by their children, who farm the ancestral land. At home, Phoeung likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio. He also goes to the pagoda when he can. A few months ago, the retina of Phoeung's right eye detached, causing him complete blindness. This can happen when fluid builds up behind the retina of the eye. The fluid pushes the retina away from the tissue behind it. Common causes include leaking blood vessels and swelling because of conditions such as an injury, inflammation, or age-related macular degeneration. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Phoeung learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 7th, eye surgeons will perform a retinal detachment repair procedure in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Phoeung is able to contribute $250 but needs help in raising $399 more to fund this procedure. Phoeung shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I can go outside and take care of myself well."
