Sav is a 65-year-old rice farmer with one daughter and two grandchildren. Sav’s daughter works in a garment factory. These days, Sav stays at home with her grandchildren and does not farm anymore as it is difficult for her to see well. She enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio.
Five years ago, Sav developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her sensitivity to light, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Sav learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for an hour and a half with her daughter seeking treatment. On June 9th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sav shared, “I hope after surgery I can see well so I can go places on my own, plant some vegetables around my house, and take care of my mother and my grandchildren.”
