Him, a 33-year-old woman from Cambodia, loves cooking and looking after her family. Ten years ago, Him got an infection on her finger, causing pain and inflammation. She was treated by a traditional healer in her village, but the infection never healed properly. Since that time, a contracture, or a permanent shortening of a muscle, joint, or tissue, has developed at the infection site. This is causing Him to have limited function in her finger and hand.
On October 4, Him will undergo surgery to release the tight skin and help improve function and ability in her finger and hand. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, requests $417 to help fund the treatment.
Him says, “I hope I can get better after surgery.”
