Sabin is a 63-year-old retired rice farmer. She is married and lives in Kampong Cham province with her elderly husband. They have one adopted daughter - a clothing garment worker - and three grandchildren. They all live together in a small house. At home, she listens to monks pray on the radio, looks after the house and children while her daughter is at work, and visits her local pagoda in her spare time. Three years ago, Sabin developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her light sensitivity, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own any more. When Sabin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 18th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Sabin said: "I hope after surgery I can see better, do more outside and help to take care of my grandchildren."

Saron is a 60-year-old Khmer traditional musician. He lives in Cambodia with his wife, who is a singer. As artists were targeted during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, the few surviving traditional musicians are well-respected in Cambodia. Together, they have one daughter, two sons, and eight grandchildren. In his free time, Saron likes to listen to music and take care of his grandchildren. About six months ago, Saron developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go out independently. When Saron learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On April 5th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this surgery. Saron shared: “After surgery, I hope I can easily go out, recognize things well, and play music again.”

Soy is a 77-year-old grandmother from Kampot province, Cambodia. She has a big family - four sons, four daughters, and many grandchildren. One of her daughters is a rice farmer and Soy enjoys growing vegetables around their house to supplement their diet. She likes to cook for her family, take care of her grandchildren, and do housework for her daughter. On May 17th, 2023, Soy fell onto concrete while trying to get out of a hammock. She directly hit her left knee, and an x-ray revealed a fracture of the left femoral neck. Soy's family was not able to afford local care, so Soy's pain went untreated for almost a month. Her neighbor suggested she visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Soy and her daughter traveled for three hours seeking treatment for her pain and inability to walk. On July 4th, surgeons at CSC will perform a hip hemiarthroplasty procedure on her left hip. This will help her to regain mobility. Soy and her family need help to raise $544 to fund her procedure and care. This will include surgery, implants, medications, and hospital care. Soy said, "after surgery, I hope I can walk and don’t have pain anymore. I want to help my daughter and grandchildren and enjoy my simple life."
