Umu is a four-year-old girl from Sierra Leone. She loves to get dressed up in her best dresses, and she likes to play hide and seek.
Umu has Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect. There is a hole between two chambers of her heart and a muscular blockage in one of her heart’s valves. Because of her condition, Umu’s body is deprived of oxygen, and she is sickly and weak. However, when she visits the clinic, she always wants to play doctor. She’s also learning to use a stethoscope.
Umu is flying to the Cayman Islands with our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance. There, she will receive corrective surgery on November 8, 2016. Her family needs our help to pay her $1,500 travel expenses.
Umu says, “I am excited to start school when I get back from my trip!”
