Tumusiimire is a farmer in her early 40s. She is a friendly and outspoken lady, and a single mother to four children. She has two sons and two daughters who are still in school, both primary and secondary. She had differences with her husband over family issues and decided to separate and is now raising her children. She and her children live with her parents, and she farms for a living.
Five years ago, Tumusiimire began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath whenever she lies down to sleep. She was diagnosed with a goitre, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumusiimire receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on October 4th at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money.
Tumusiimire says “I am the only provider to both my parents and children but without my life in good health I won’t be able to sustain them. I need your support.”
