Akankwasa is a local community development officer from Uganda. She is 38-years-old and has a disability that keeps her from being able to walk. She had 9 siblings, but only two of them are still living. She has gone through a lot because she had to take care of her late brothers and sisters’ children especially educating them and paying their school fees. She rents a double room for shelter in their village. As a local government community development officer her salary is not able to cover the load on her shoulders of taking care of her nephews and nieces in addition to her own physical condition.
For the last three years ago, Akankwasa has been experiencing abdominal pains and heavy bleeding. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $228 to fund Akankwasa’s surgery. On August 14th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Once recovered, Akankwasa will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain and her quality of life will improve.
Akankwasa says, “I hope to live a normal life again through a surgery. I will resume my normal duties as a community development officer and be able to help all of my dependents as I was doing before.”
