Horn is a 72-year-old retired rice farmer from Kompong Cham province. He is married and has three sons, five daughters, and twelve grandchildren. Horn’s favorite hobbies are visiting the local pagoda to pray and gardening around his house.
About three years ago, Horn developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him sensitivity to light, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, thus he is unable to travel on his own.
When Horn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for five and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 6th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Horn needs help raising $253 to fund his procedure.
He said, “I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I can recognize my family members.”

It was difficult for Horn to travel to Children’s Surgical Centre, but it was important to repair his eye so he could work outside in his vegetable garden. Horn had successful eye surgery and has returned home. Cataract surgery has given him more independence and improved self-esteem. Horn’s improved eyesight has enabled him to help his wife, children and grandchildren much more easily.
Horn said, “I feel happy that I can see well again and take care of myself. I can help my wife do more. I received friendly and caring treatment from the staff and the doctor when I came to CSC for my eye examination and treatment.”
