Srey Neang is an 18-year-old tailor from Cambodia. She has four other siblings, and in her free time she likes to read books and chat with her friends.
When she was five, Srey Neang had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Srey Neang experiences hearing loss, itchiness, drainage, and headaches. It is difficult for her to hear others, and she often experiences headaches that disrupt her daily life.
Srey Neang traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On April 29, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $842 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
She says, “I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to hear clearly again and will no longer suffer from headaches or ear discharge.”
