Sdoeung is a hardworking 48-year-old woman from Cambodia who works as a cleaner. She is the daughter of a rice farmer and has seven siblings. When she is not working, Sdoeung enjoys listening to music and watching TV.
When she was 20, Sdoeung had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, she now experiences ear pain, discharge, and hearing loss. She also has difficulty communicating clearly with others.
Fortunately, Sdoeung traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On July 14th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $487 to fund this procedure. This covers supplies, treatment, and inpatient care.
Sdoeung says, “I hope the ear infection stops permanently after surgery. I have spent a lot of money on medicines and treatments at private clinics, but nothing has helped.”

Upon full recovery, Sdoeung’s hearing will improve, and she will no longer have frequent ear infections. Sdoeung shared that this will impact her life greatly, as before undergoing surgery, her symptoms caused her to have to miss work often, which affected her livelihood.
