Lai is a 17-year-old factory worker from Cambodia who has three sisters and three brothers. In her free time, she likes to listen to music, cook, read books, and study English.
Lai has neurofibromatosis of her left leg, a genetic condition in which tumors grow on nerve tissue. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), treated Lai for her condition by ridding Lai of the tumors in her leg, removing dead or infected tissue, and performing a skin graft.
Now, Lai has developed painful wounds that make it difficult for her to walk. CSC is therefore requesting $440 to fund a new skin graft procedure for Lai that will heal her wounds and help her to walk easily again. The treatment is scheduled to take place on June 20, and the cost covers a 10-day hospital stay, lab tests, scans, and physical therapy.
