Doeung is a 60-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She and her husband have one son, one daughter and four grandchildren. Her husband is a monk at a pagoda, and they live on the grounds of the pagoda. Doeung participates in the religious ceremonies and takes her grandchildren on walks around the countryside.
Five years ago, Doeung developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing and irritation. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Doeung learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 4th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Doeung said, “I enjoy cooking meals for my husband and the other monks, so I hope I can see well enough to work in my kitchen at night.”
