Sokhoeun is a 74-year-old woman from Cambodia. She has one son, three daughters, and seventeen grandchildren. Her husband passed away twenty years ago, and Sokhoeun lives alone near her second daughter. She loves to cook for her children and grandchildren when they visit! Sokhoeun works as a tailor and enjoys listening to the monks pray and visiting the local pagoda at the end of her workday.
A year ago, Sokhoeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She also feels isolated because she cannot go outside by herself. Sokhoeun has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking.
When Sokhoeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On April 24th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Sokhoeun contributed $100 to her care.
Sokhoeun shared: “After surgery, I hope my eye can see well so I can tailor clothes for sale again to earn money.”
