Lemayan is an adorable one-year-old boy from Tanzania who likes to play with toys. He is unable to participate in more active games, however, because he was born with a condition commonly known as “club foot,” where his right foot is angled inwards, making attempts at mobility difficult and painful.
Because of his condition, Lemayan has not learned to stand as expected and experiences pain when he tries. Lemayan’s parents say that they “hope that one day our son will walk to school.” But if left untreated, walking normally will be out of the question.
Lemayan’s mother stays at home to care for him, his three brothers, and sister, while his father tends to goats and sheep. The occasional goat or sheep sale provides some income, but not enough to cover Lemayan’s medical expenses. For $500, we can fund surgery and a series of castings that will correct this little guy’s clubfoot, and in a few years, he will be able to join his friends on the walk to school.
