Komugisha is a secretary from Uganda. She is married with two children, both are at home as they are still too young for school. Komugisha’s husband works on local home construction sites to earn a living. She works in a secondary school and earns a low pay, which doesn’t meet their family needs.
Since three months ago, Komugisha has had an epigastric hernia. This hernia causes her to have pain, especially after meals, causing her to fear eating. Fortunately, on April 21st, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Komugisha’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.

Komugisha did not yet undergo epigastric hernia treatment.
We just received an update from our Medical Partner on Komigisha. She was planning to have a herniorrhaphy treatment for her epigastric hernia, but when the surgeon reviewed her in preparation for surgery, they suggested it would be better for her to first complete having her family (having any more children as she hopes) because the surgery could cause future pregnancy risks, such as stomach rupture as the stomach walls are shortened from the surgery and overstretched during a pregnancy. Given the size and placement of her hernia, the medical team feels this is the safest option for her as a woman in reproductive age. Komugisha has been encouraged to return as she ages to have the treatment and we hope to support her then if needed. Thank you for your understanding.
