Chana is a curious 15-month-old toddler from Cambodia. She is an only child who lives with her parents in Takeo province. Her mother is a homemaker, while her father manages a farm. In 2022, when Channa was about a year old and learning to walk, she grabbed a handle from a pan of boiling water on the stove and severely burned her left arm. She was treated for the burn at a local clinic, but she has developed burn scar contractures on her left elbow and axilla. These scars make it difficult for her to raise her arm or to use her hand. She cries when her mother tries to stretch the skin to massage it. Chana's parents sought care from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On May 4th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform burn contracture release surgery, which should enable Chana to use her arm fully as she explores the world. Now, Chana and her family need your help to fund this $495 procedure. Chana's mother said: "I hope Chana will feel comfortable and use her hand and arm again when she goes to school. We cannot afford to go to the local clinic, and hope that the doctors at CSC can help her."

Theng lives with his wife and son in a village in Kandal province. His son works as a driver and supports the family. He also has a married daughter who works in a nearby factory. He enjoys planting vegetables around the house to help support their simple diet. Theng, afflicted with diabetes, is more susceptible to foot complications, including infections and delayed wound healing. Two months ago, he noticed a wound on his right foot. The wound has spread, and necrotic tissue has developed. Despite seeking treatment from a traditional healer in his village, the wound has rapidly worsened, causing escalating pain. Referred by a local hospital, Theng traveled for an hour to receive medical assistance from our medical partner, the Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Unfortunately, due to the severity of the complication, doctors cannot save his leg. On June 9th, CSC surgeons are scheduled to perform a below-the-knee amputation, alleviating Theng's pain and removing the unhealthy tissue so that the condition does not spread further. CSC is now appealing for $479 in funding to support this procedure. Theng said: "I hope after this surgery, I will be able to return to my family, and have a quiet life."

Jennifer is a 51-year-old, small-scale farmer. When she was young, she was in school up to the 4th grade, but then had to stop. She shared that her husband died in 2001 and left her and their children a two-room mud house. She has four daughters who are all married now and she lives with one of her grandchildren who helps her in domestic work. Five years ago, Jennifer began to experience troubling symptoms, including a painless neck swelling that has been growing gradually. After using herbs with no improvement, Jennifer visited a hospital, and a scan was performed. She was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter-an enlarged thyroid gland with separate bumps (nodules) on it. Jennifer was told that she needed surgery, but it was not done at that time due to finances. Now the goiter has continued to grow, and Jennifer is experiencing airway obstruction and periodic severe headaches. Jennifer needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Jennifer receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 22nd at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $333, and she and her family need help raising money. Jennifer says, “I hope to become well through surgery so that I can kepp up with my day-to-day farming duties.”
