Nalubega is a 43-year-old woman from Uganda. Nalubega works as an elementary school teacher, teaching primarily third graders.
In 2015, Nalubega underwent a laparotomy for an intestinal obstruction. Her incision site unfortunately did not heal properly. She noticed that her scar grew and developed pus; when teaching one day, Nalubega was overcome with nausea and a sudden inability to stand, prompting her to be rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with an incisional hernia and was advised to have surgery. If not treated, Nalubega may suffer potentially fatal tissue damage due to the hernia cutting off intestinal blood supply.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund hernia repair surgery for Nalubega. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 19 and, once completed, will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and return to the activities that she enjoys.
“After surgery I will continue with teaching,” says Nalubega.
