“I want to be a doctor when I grow up. English, Mathematics and Swahili are my favorite subjects,” says Diana.
Diana was born normally, only that her feet were deformed forcing her to spend a month in the hospital to help straighten her legs. While being treated, the doctor recommended an MRI scan to check on her spine before they could embark on her surgery. Diana was diagnosed with rectal stenosis–a form of anorectal malformation in addition to her club feet. She has been undergoing treatment for the legs and now ready for the next surgery.
Diana’s mother set out to Watsi Medical Partner’s care center BethanyKids Hospital where the doctor has recommended an angioplasty surgery which involves reconstruction of the anus and is most often performed to correct anal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the anal canal that causes painful bowel movements.
Diana’s mother and siblings all engage in tilling their small piece of land to sustain their livelihood. Diana is the lastborn of eight children and a student in class six. She aspires to be a doctor in future to help the sick and suffering. Diana’s father abandoned the family in 2009 due to the increasing family demands. Her mother is not able to raise the funds needed for her surgical care let alone fully cater to the needs of her large family. She is, therefore, appealing for help.
