Four-month-old Racheal and her family live in a two-room house in the coastal region of Kenya. Her parents are farmers.
Racheal was well until she turned a month old. Then her disposition changed. She started crying often, and at times threw up after nursing. Her head also began growing at a greater rate than her body. Racheal’s parents knew something was not right and sought help in the nearest clinic.
At the hospital, Racheal was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess fluid builds in the skull, swelling the head and putting pressure on the brain. Doctors recommended surgery to insert a drain to relieve the pressure.
On August 28, Racheal is scheduled to undergo the operation. Without it, she is at risk of delayed development, brain damage, and death.
Watsi is asking for $685 to cover the costs of the surgery. Your donation will help pay for the surgeon’s fees, surgical and hospital supplies, anesthesia, laboratory tests, medication, and five nights of hospital stay.
“I am happy to have found [a place] where Racheal can get treatment. I hope we get financial help towards her treatment,” says Racheal’s mother.
