Marietta is a 38-year-old mother from Tanzania. She has three young children aged between 3 and 10 years old.
Marietta started feeling sick last year, with severe headaches and dizziness. They traveled to the hospital where a CT scan was done and she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. The doctor recommended immediate treatment but Marietta and her family could not afford the life-saving treatment. Before getting sick Marietta was helping her husband to take care of the family by cooking and selling buns outside their rented home. Her husband is hired as a taxi driver with inconsistent income depending on the day’s business. They are not able to afford Marietta’s needed treatment and are requesting help. This treatment will save Marietta’s life and enable her to return to her health and be able to look after her young children.
Marietta has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $765 to cover the cost of surgery for Marietta that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 21st and will drain the excess fluid from Marietta’s brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life.
Marietta says, “Please help me get well so I can be able to take care of my kids, they still need me and I am worried as days go by I am getting worse.”
