Tumuheki is a primary school teacher and mother of six children from Uganda. Her oldest child is now 18 years old while her youngest is in primary school. In order to raise funds for school, she farms alongside the road and hikes to a farm. Like Tumuheki, her husband is also a teacher. Together, they live in a four-room semi-permanent house with their family.
Five years ago, Tumuheki developed a small swelling on her neck that has been progressively increasing in size. She visited a doctor three years ago who recommended surgery, but she was not able to afford the charge at the time. Due to the mass, Tumuheki feels uncomfortable in front of her students as well as for social gatherings. Her major worry is what could come out of the swelling if not treated soon. Fortunately, Tumuheki traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On August 3rd, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $145 to fund this procedure.
Tumuheki says, “I heard of this program from a friend at Rushoroza hospital and I finally had hope that I can look and feel normal again through surgery. I hope to resume teaching as soon as I get through with the surgery.”
