Tak is a 57-year-old farmer from Cambodia. She is a loving wife and mother to her four daughters and three sons. In her free time, she enjoys planting potatoes, tending to her vegetable garden, and cooking for her family.
Almost one year ago, Tak fell from a tractor and fractured her right wrist. Tak visited a traditional healer to relieve the pain and stiffness in her fingers. Unfortunately, the pain has not subsided, and she still has difficulty using her hand.
Tak and her husband recently drove four hours to the care center of our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, at the recommendation of a relative. Surgeons advised an arthroplasty of the pinky and ring finger joints of her right hand. This surgery will allow for Tak to use her hand easily again and without pain, meaning a return to caring for her garden.
Tak is scheduled to undergo the arthroplasty on May 4. Our medical partner is requesting $450 to fund this treatment. This will cover Tak’s surgery and hospital stay so that her hand can return to healthy function.
