Akankunda is a student majoring in biology, chemistry, and mathematics and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. For the past 10 years, she has had a swelling on her wrist. Recently the swelling became painful, affecting her hand’s utility. She was reviewed by a surgeon at Nyakibale Hospital who recommended to excise the swollen mass, as she is unable to easily use her left hand.
On May 11th, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Akankunda’s family needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure.
Akankunda says: “I really believe that once I get your support, I will be able to undergo surgery so that I can have a functional hand and resume my studies.”

Akankunda underwent a mass excision so she can use her hand more easily.
Akankunda successfully underwent an excision to treat a cyst lipoma. She is now able to move and use her arm easily, as the surgery relieved her from further complications and pain.
Akankunda says, “As a student, I was burdened yet my parents could not afford the cost of the surgery. I will be able to continue with school since am in senior five to achieve my ambition of being a doctor in future.”
