Chantrea is a seven-year-old 3rd grader from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and younger brother in a rural village near the border with Vietnam. His mother sells vegetables at home, while his father is a rice farmer. At school, Chantrea's favorite subjects are history and math. When he grows up, he dreams of owning a shop. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer with his friends in the village. On April 1, 2024, Chantrea suffered an electric burn at home, resulting in scar contractures on his left ring and little fingers. Now, his left little finger is permanently flexed and cannot be extended, and the ring finger has limited extension at the middle joint. He experiences pain when attempting to move his little finger, making it difficult for him to write and feed himself as he is left-handed. When Chantrea learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 11th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve the function in his hand. Chantrea's family was able to contribute $50 towards his medical costs but needs help to raise $445 more to fund the procedure. Chantrea's mother hopes that her son will be able to do his everyday activities more easily and that he can return to school and start to write again.

Meet Macda, a 35-year-old mother of two from Haiti. She lives in Port-au-Prince with her partner and their two children. She and her partner are both vendors. Macda has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. As a result of an infection that she suffered earlier in her life, one of the four valves of her heart does not function properly. This valve cannot adequately pump blood through her body, leaving her weak and short of breath. Macda will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On August 27th, she will undergo cardiac surgery at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital, during which surgeons will either repair or replace her damaged valve, allowing it to function more normally. The hospital is contributing $25,000.00 to pay for the surgery. However, Macda's family also needs help to fund the cost of pre-surgical labs, medicines, and checkups, as well as follow-up appointments. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, will also need resources to secure travel documents and support for social workers who will accompany Macda's family on their trip to the U.S. They are requesting $1,500 to fund these costs. Macda said: "I have been praying for years to be able to have this surgery, and I am very thankful to everyone who is helping me to get it!"

Heng is a 67-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Heng has four children and lives in Kratié Province with her husband and two of her children. The family works in rice fields near their home and take odd jobs around the village during the slow season. In her free time, Heng enjoys cooking and volunteering at the local pagoda. She often cooks extra food to bring to the monks when she goes to pray. In April 2023, Heng was in a motorbike accident that caused a fracture in her left leg. She sought treatment at a local clinic where she received basic wound care and a splint. Later, she went to a traditional healer in her village, who replaced her splint with a bamboo one. She wore this splint for a month. Now, more than one year later, the fracture has not healed. Heng experiences pain while walking due to a deformity in her left leg, and varus deformity in her left knee. She cannot walk without using her crutches. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 4th, Heng will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will help her walk easily again. Heng's family was able to contribute $100 towards her medical costs but needs help raising the remaining $383 to fund the procedure. After surgery, Heng hopes that she will no longer be in pain and that she will be able to return to work full-time.
