Koem Chheng is a 46-year-old taxi driver from Cambodia. He is married and has two sons and one daughter. In his free time, Koem Chheng likes to listen to music and read magazines.
In December 2016, Koem Chheng was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture of his left femur and tibia. He underwent an open reduction internal fixation procedure at a local hospital in order to heal his fractures, however his wound became infected shortly after the operation. Additionally, Koem Chheng has been diagnosed with avascular necrosis of his left hip, which refers to the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. Koem Chheng experiences persistent pain and is only able to walk with the support of crutches.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $450 to remove the hardware from Koem Chheng’s tibia and conduct a hemiarthroplasty on his left hip. This procedure will replace part of Koem Chheng’s hip joint with a prosthetic. The operation is scheduled to take place on June 15 and, once completed, will hopefully allow Koem Chheng to walk easily and comfortably again.
