Amos, from Kenya, is just one-and-a-half months old. He was born with serious congenital conditions affecting his central nervous system. Amos was previously treated for spina bifida—incomplete fusion of the spine. He requires additional treatment for hydrocephalus—a dangerous build-up of fluid in the brain. If not treated, this condition may lead to delayed developmental milestones, brain damage, or premature death.
On September 15, surgeons will insert a shunt in Amos’s head, allowing the excess fluid in his skull to drain and relieving the pressure on his brain. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $685 to fund Amos’s medical treatment.
Amos’s mother is a single parent and currently unemployed. She has worked hard to sustain herself and help put her brothers through school. She says, “I hope Amos will be well and excel in life.”
