“He is such a happy little boy, but because of this problem he has been in pain for so long,” says Shisir’s father. “It is hard as a dad to see your child in pain.”
Shisir, an eight-year-old boy from Nepal, has an inguinal hernia – a condition that occurs when soft tissue in the intestine protrudes through a weak area in the abdominal wall, resulting in a painful bulge. “He has swelling around the area,” explains our medical partner, Possible. “It is painful for him to bend.”
“He has difficulties even doing simple tasks such as changing clothes, sitting, and walking to school,” Possible continues. If left untreated, these types of hernias may grow larger and block blood flow to the abdomen.
$491 will fund the surgery that Shisir needs to address his hernia. The treatment cost also includes labs, imaging, post-operative medication, and a three-day hospital stay.
After his recovery, Shisir will not be in pain and he will be able to play and participate in daily activities without any difficulty. This is a welcomed outcome for a little boy who loves studying English and playing soccer.
“I am really looking forward to seeing the same happy little boy again,” shares Shisir’s father.
