Malis is a ten-year-old student from Cambodia. She is the youngest of three children. She is in third grade and at school her favorite activity is writing stories. In her free time she likes reading fairy tale books and playing jump rope.
A year ago, Malis developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Malis’ family learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, they traveled for four hours by taxi seeking treatment. On July 6th, doctors will perform a lensectomy and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Malis shared, “I hope that my eye surgery can get better so I can read my books and go to school. I want to study more so I can have a good job one day.”
