Visa, who is 10 years old, lives with her parents and two siblings, in a rural village. Both of her parents work as rice farmers. Visa and her sister love to play pretend restaurant together, and to watch cartoons. Visa hopes to be a Cambodian history teacher one day.
For the last three years, Visa has lived with a sinus infection. She experiences fever and swelling of her sinus, as well as pus and drainage from her nostril. She says her friends sometimes don’t want to play with her, and she has missed several days at school. Her parents are worried that Visa’s condition is worsening.
Doctors have advised the family that surgery will help to relieve the pressure in Visa’s sinus, and will allow her nose to be drained, enabling Visa to breathe normally again. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $297 to fund the surgery, which is scheduled for April 3rd, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre.
Visa’s parents shared their hope that she will finally feel better after being sick for so long.

Visa underwent sinus surgery so she can live healthy as she grows.
On the advice of a friend, Visa and her family traveled three hours from Kampong Thom province for diagnosis and treatment at our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre, where she had surgery to close the cyst and remove the source of her chronic infection. Visa was very brave during her stay at the hospital and was able to return to her province a few days after her surgery. She received antibiotics to reduce the chance of reinfection, will clean her nose with saline several times daily, and have her stitches removed approximately a week after surgery.
Visa is relieved she will no longer have fevers, pain, or discharge and wants to return to school. She looks forward to playing with her friends and continuing her studies.
Visa’s mother shared: “I am proud of my daughter, she had good results and can go back to school. This will make her life better. We are thankful to the surgeons for the good care.”
