Mom is an elderly rice farmer with two daughters, two sons, and seven grandchildren. Mom lives with his wife and their youngest daughter and son-in-law. He shared that he likes to read books and listen to the monks pray on the radio.
Five years ago, Mom developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision, photophobia, and tearing. As a result, he has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go places independently.
When Mom learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled there hoping to access treatment. On March 1st, doctors will perform small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $229 to help fund this procedure.
Mom shared, “I hope I can see well enough to visit my relatives, read books, and go back to the pagoda.”

Mom underwent sight-restoring cataract surgery.
Mom was going blind, which was difficult for him because he lost many of the simple pleasures of his life. At CSC, he had a successful surgery and was able to return home the following day. His life will change because he likes reading books and previously could not see well enough to do that. Mom is grateful he had the chance to improve his eyesight with his surgery so that he can enjoy his final years with his family.
Mom’s daughter said: “I am relieved my father’s eye is better. He can tolerate the bright light outside without help and is no longer worried he will fall. We are so appreciative of the help from the staff and the donors who paid for his surgery.”
