Christine is a 50-year-old farmer from Southwestern Uganda. She is a married mother to six children, including three daughters and three sons who are all small-scale farmers. In her free time, Christine loves singing in church. To make a living, she own a banana and coffee plantation. She also grows other crops like maize, beans, and cassava to feed her family. Her husband works as a casual laborer getting work whenever he can. Their family lives in a grass-thatched mud house with three rooms.
For about a year, Christine has been experiencing lower abdominal pain and other uncomfortable symptoms. She was diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion. To treat her condition, she needs to undergo a hysterectomy, or a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Christine receive treatment. On March 23rd, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMH’s care center. Once recovered, Christine will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Now, she needs help raising $219 to fund her procedure and care.
Christine shared, “I hope that the pain in my lower abdomen and bleeding will cease once the surgery is done and I will be able to resume farming to sustain my family.”
