James is a 45-year-old father of three children from Kenya. He works as a matatu (minibus) conductor, and his wife works as a subsistence farmer on their ancestral land. His family lives in a three-bedroom house, and they rely on his income to meet their daily needs.
In January 2017, James was in a road accident that killed four people. He considers himself lucky to have survived. During the accident, he sustained a left tibia fracture. He had a closed radius surgery to treat the fracture. However, he did not heal properly and has been unable to work since the accident.
As a result, James’s wife is the only provider for the house. This places an increased pressure on her to provide for the family’s needs. If James is left untreated, he will be at risk of developing arthritis and permanent disability.
Thus, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has recommended an IM nail surgery, which will insert a specially designed metal rod to treat his fracture. The procedure is scheduled for April 13, and our medical partner is requesting $1,451 to fund the treatment.
“I want to continue providing for my family and help my wife,” says James.
