Tumuheirwe is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a single mother of a ten-year-old child.
Ten years ago, Tumuheirwe began to experience troubling symptoms, including a neck swelling, pain, and difficulty breathing and swallowing. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumuheirwe receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on December 21 at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money.
Tumuheirwe says, “I hope to regain my normal appearance of the neck and continue with cultivation.”

Tumuheirwe sadly and unexpectedly passed away before treatment.
Tumuheirwe did not have surgery as planned because she was unwell. She was admitted, treated, and put on medication. The hospital hoped to perform the sub-total thyroidectomy once she had fully recovered. We are deeply saddened to report that during this time, she passed away.
We are committed to reporting all outcomes transparently—even the ones we wish were different. Thank you so much for your support of Tumuheirwe and her family.
