Gift is a polite and humble boy and the firstborn in a family of two children. His family hails from Kiu village which is about a 5-hour drive to our medical partner’s care center Cure Hospital.
We first met Gift at Cure Hospital’s mobile clinic in Makindu where he came with his mother. She works at home taking care of their family while his father is a casual laborer, they live in a two-roomed house.
Gift was born with clubfoot condition and his mother was not aware that his birth condition could be corrected until she visited their local hospital and was referred to Cure’s mobile clinic. At the clinic, she was shown pictures of patients who had a severe clubfoot deformity and had it corrected, so she was hopeful and encouraged that her son could get well too. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes.
Surgeons at AIC Cure International Hospital will perform clubfoot repair surgery for Gift on April 16th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,286 to fund Gift’s clubfoot repair. This treatment will be of great impact to Gift because he’ll no longer feel pain as he strains to walk, he’ll be able to put on shoes, walk well, and engage in other activities while in school and at home.
“On behalf of our family, I am seeking support for my son to undergo surgery and continue with his normal life like other children.” Gift’s mother told us.
