Dinnah is a hardworking farmer and a middle-aged mother of 8 children: 7 sons and a daughter. Some of her children are still in school while the older ones are now working. Dinnah loves rearing animals and has three cows and 10 goats, however her major source of income is from her sale of bananas and coffee.
Recently, Dinnah began to experience troubling symptoms, including anterior neck swelling along with a headache, shortness of breath and general body weakness. She went to Nyakibale hospital and had a scan done, where she was diagnosed with euthyroid goitre. It was recommended that she undergo thyroidectomy surgery. Initially, at a different facility, she was told it would cost $850 for her surgery, but she could not raise that amount. Then Dinnah came to Nyakibale Hospital as she worried her symptoms were getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is now helping Dinnah receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on October 5th at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money.
Dinnah says: “I really hope to be well and resume my duties of supporting my husband in raising our children.”
