Dat is a 65-year-old grandmother. Sadly, Dat’s husband passed away many years ago, and now she lives with her daughter, who is a farmer. When she is at home, she takes care of her granddaughter.
One year ago, Dat developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. She is also worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Dat learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for eight hours seeking treatment. On March 2nd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Dat shared, “I hope my vision improves so I can get around easily on my own.”

Dat underwent cataract surgery to improve her vision.
Dat was increasingly dependent on others due to her poor vision. After a long day of travel, she had cataract surgery and was able to return home to her province several days later. She will rest at home and she hopes to be more productive after her eye has healed completely. She shared that she looks forward to walking her grandchild to and from school now that she can see better.
Dat said: “I am relieved I will see well again. I want to be able to walk to the pagoda by myself without being afraid I will fall. My daughter won’t have to take care of me, and I can visit the market and pagoda by myself. Thank you to the surgeon who fixed my eye and all the people who paid for my surgery.”
