Siphat is a small business owner who works selling groceries. Together, she and her husband have one son, four daughters, and 13 grandchildren. Siphat lives with her oldest daughter, who is a cleaner at a hotel. During her free time, she enjoys watching the news on TV and listening to monks pray on the radio.
About two years ago, Siphat developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her to experience blurry vision and vision loss. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Siphat learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On July 4th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Siphat shares, “I hope after surgery I can see better. I want to help my daughter with housework and take care of my grandchildren.”

Siphat underwent cataract surgery so she can see clearly and help care for her grandchildren.
Siphat was unhappy she could not see well enough to cook or walk her grandchildren back and forth from school. Her son told her about the CSC Eye surgery program, where she traveled for a diagnosis and treatment. After the surgery, she rested for a few days at home and applied eye drops to decrease any risk of infection. When her eyesight stabilizes, she will be able to return to her daily activities and care for her grandchildren, which is a highlight of her life.
Siphat said: “Thank you for making my health better. I am happy I listened to our neighbor and had this surgery. I am relieved I can have my life back and do the things I like to do.”
