Sarouen is a 40-year-old rice and vegetable farmer. He is married and has a four-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter who is in the 2nd grade. In his free time, Sarouen enjoys listening to classical music and looking after his children.
In June 2019, Sarouen was hit by a grass cutter causing an open fracture of his left tibia. A local hospital inserted hardware to support Sarouen’s leg, but surgical repair is necessary for his full recovery. This injury has caused Sarouen great pain, impacting his ability to walk.
When Sarouen learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled six hours to seek treatment. On February 3rd surgeons at CSC will perform a fibular repair surgery to help heal Sarouen’s leg so he can walk again without pain. Sarouen and his family seek $657 to help fund this procedure.
Sarouen shared, “I hope the surgery will be successful so I can return to work to earn money for my family.”

Sarouen underwent fracture repair surgery.
Saroeun was grateful the provincial hospital’s recommended to travel to CSC for his treatment. The CSC staff kept a sterile dressing on his wound and Saroeun was given antibiotics to make sure the area did not get reinfected. He remained in the hospital until surgeons were sure his skin flap was successfully connected to the existing blood supply and he has now returned to his community and his farm in Kampong Cham. He hopes to walk without assistance soon. He can then grow rice and vegetables to feed his family and make sure his children stay in school.
Sarouen said: “I am grateful for the help of CSC. My broken leg is healing well, and the skin better. My family needs my support and I am happy to work again. Thank you for your help so I could have this surgery and improve my life.”
