Phal is a 65-year-old mother and grandmother. Her husband passed away 10 years ago, so she lives with her eldest daughter who works as a weaver at home. She has a large family of two sons, five daughters, and 12 grandchildren. At home Phal enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio.
Five years ago, Phal developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Phal learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for one hour with her daughter seeking treatment. On June 16th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Phal wishes to connect with her family better after treatment, “I hope I can go outside easily after surgery and see well enough to recognize my relatives and take care of my grandchildren.”
