Seng Hong is a 23-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Cham province with his family. His father also works in construction, his mother makes and sells Khmer sweets in the village or at the market, and his younger sister is in school. He works hard in construction, and after work, he likes to hang out in the backyard with his friends and listen to music. Eleven months ago, Seng Hong fell off the back of a tractor and fractured his humerus (upper arm bone) and wrist in his right arm. He could not afford surgery at that time and did not seek care until three months ago when he had a pin placed at a government hospital to stabilize the bone due to his inability to use his arm for work. Soon thereafter, the affected area became swollen, red, and warm to the touch. Seng Hong experiences increased pain and oozing of pus at the surgical site. Now, the hardware is exposed and infected. It is difficult for him to use the hand and he in chronic pain. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 18th, Seng Hong will undergo a hardware removal procedure at CSC's care center. This procedure will clean out the infected area, and remove any necrotic tissue and hardware if it is contributing to the infection. Seng Hong is contributing $100 to his treatment, and CSC is requesting the remaining $304. Seng Hong said: "after surgery I hope the pus and pain goes away and I can use my arm to help my father in construction."

Samon is a 57-year-old grandfather who lives in Kandal province with his wife. They both work as rice farmers and spend their free time with their four children and their grandchildren. Samon also enjoys watching Cambodian news and boxing on TV. Around two months ago, Samon noticed a wound on his foot getting worse. He has tried traditional medicine, but the wound has not improved and he is in chronic pain. At the suggestion of a neighbor, he and his wife traveled 1.5 hours to reach our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for further care. Doctors at CSC diagnosed Samon with a diabetic ulcer. This is a common condition in patients with diabetes, with the ulcer usually on the bottom of the foot. Unfortunately, Samon's condition is quite serious with large areas of infected and dead tissue. The best option is to perform an amputation. Samon is scheduled for surgery on September 7th. He is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of the surgery. He and CSC need help raising $479 to fully fund the procedure to alleviate his pain. Samon shared, "I hope I can have surgery so that I can go home and not worry about the infection and pain getting worse."

Fabriana is a very happy 14-month-old baby girl from the highlands of Kenya, where her parents are small-scale farmers. She lives with them, her older sibling, and her grandparents in a semi-permanent house where her parents plant vegetables for sale. Fabriana has an umbilical protrusion that causes her pain, especially after she eats. Her family brought her to a clinic that prescribed her medication, but her condition worsened. Fabriana stopped eating regularly and has not been as playful as before. Her worried mother brought her to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, for further diagnosis. Surgeons there will perform surgery on March 27th to alleviate her symptoms. Now, African Mission Healthcare is asking for $737 to help support this treatment. Fabriana’s mother said,”I am so uncomfortable when my baby cries with pain because of the hernia. Lately, she has not been eating well, and her weight has gone down. Kindly help her so that she may grow in a good way.”
