Lilian is heavily pregnant and due to give birth to her first child in early April. Lilian and her husband are sugar cane farmers and when they are not harvesting sugar cane they are tending to a small plot of land where they grow food to feed their family. In the final weeks of pregnancy and absolutely exhausted, Lilian worries that she is no longer able to contribute to her family’s income as she once did.
Lilian prays for a safe delivery and healthy baby but her and her husband cannot afford the $215 to send Lilian to the Lwala hospital for the delivery of their baby. Without this care Lilian knows that her chance of suffering complications during the birth and infection afterwards are increased. She also knows that without postnatal check-ups for her baby, there is a chance her baby won’t survive. With help from Watsi, Lilian and her baby can enjoy the care that we all take for granted.
