Florence and her husband are small-scale subsistence farmers. When possible, they sell their extra harvest for an additional source of income. They are expecting a child together, and they dream of a bright future for their family.
Access to maternal healthcare reduces the risk of potentially fatal complications during childbirth. Many women in Kenya don’t have access to this kind of care, but for $215, Lwala Community Alliance can provide Florence and her baby with critical services that will ensure a safe delivery. The cost of treatment includes pre-natal care, a hospital delivery and a checkup after birth.
When asked what her hopes for the future were, Florence says, “I am praying for a healthy, educated family, and also a bright future. I need to work extra hard to make me reach the target of taking my children to school.” Spoken like a true Mom.
