Nsiimenta is a 42-year-old woman from Uganda. She is a mother of 7 children, 1 of whom is married and the rest are still in school. Nsiimenta is a small scale-farmer and grows crops for home consumption, selling the surplus to support her family.
Nsiimenta has an ovarian mass that causes her lower abdominal pain, discomfort and general body fatigue. Due to these symptoms, she initially went to a hospital for a scan, where the doctors discovered the ovarian mass and referred her to Watsi’s Medical Partner Care Center Nyakibale Hospital. After a repeat scan at this hospital, the surgeon recommended a cystectomy to excise the mass. The surgery will help reduce instances of complications from the mass swell and potential ovarian cancer.
However, this procedure is costly for Nsiimenta and her family. While she sells surplus crops, her husband is a bricklayer whose earnings service the children’s school fees. With their limited income, the family is not able to raise funds for Nsiimenta’s surgery and are appealing for financial support.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On October 20th, Nsiimenta will undergo a cystectomy, which will cost $220. This procedure will prevent worsening of her current discomfort, and allow her quality of life to significantly improve.
Nsiimenta shared, “I have much faith and hope that I will recover from this problem once I have received my surgery to continue with farming.”
