Sareth is a 66-year-old agricultural caretaker. He is married and has one daughter, three sons, and six grandchildren. All of Sareth’s children are farmers. In his free time, Sareth likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
Two years ago, Sareth developed a non-cancerous growth in his right eye, which causes itchiness, irritation and tearing. This growth is a result of sun damage and has made Sareth’s vision worsen significantly.
Sareth traveled to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, to seek treatment. He will need surgery to remove the growth from his eye, and for the placement of a graft to prevent a recurrence. The procedure is scheduled to take place on May 16th at our medical partner Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. Our medical partner is seeking $225 to cover the cost of the procedure, medications, supplies, and two days of inpatient care.
Sareth says: “I don’t want to worry about my eye anymore. I hope after surgery my eye feels comfortable and the irritation and tearing stops.”

Sareth underwent eye surgery.
Sareth was happy another doctor told him about surgery at Children’s Surgical Centre and he now has had successful surgery to remove the growth in his eye. It was important for him to have his eye repaired so he can see well enough to take care of the land where they live. It may take several weeks before his vision is fully improved, but Sareth is hopeful his eyesight will be better and he can go outside again to do his job well. This will help him be more independent to support his family.
Sareth shard, “I am grateful I could have my eye fixed so I can see normally again. It is hard to work outside and not see well. Thank you. I am relieved that I can work to feed my family so they can have a good life.”
