Vian is usually seen every market day selling bananas to earn money for his family. But a couple of days ago, he had an epileptic seizure near a fire and suffered deadly third degree burns on his foot. Vian was hospitalized and diagnosed with sepsis, a condition in which the whole body becomes inflamed from a serious infection that results in high fevers and other life-threatening problems.
Vian needs one major surgery and two minor surgeries to debride the wounds (remove the dead skin) and daily dressing to treat the sepsis. Vian will be in the hospital for at least five weeks while his burns heal, after which point doctors will do skin grafting on the affected areas. His doctors say that without treatment, Vian “is likely to die from the infection and sepsis.”
Vian makes 5,000 Uganda Shillings ($1.70) on a good day at market. He won’t be able to work during his treatment, so he is already falling behind on his financial obligations. Let’s help Vian get the treatment he needs to return to the marketplace and maintain a healthy life with his family.
