Elmer is a 13-month-old boy from Guatemala. He is adored by his family members, who love to spoil him. His brothers like to play with Elmer, taking turns with who gets to spend time with him. Elmer enjoys eating refried beans and mango. His father works in the countryside planting crops and clearing land for seeding, and his mother takes care of the household.
Recently, Elmer was diagnosed with malnutrition, a condition that results from consuming too little protein, calories, and nutrients.
On May 19, Elmer will begin growth monitoring and nutritional supplementation at Clinic Tecpán, our medical partner’s care center. Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, is asking for $492 to cover the cost of Elmer’s food supplementation, as well as an educational program that will teach his mother how to create a nutrient-rich diet for Elmer using limited resources.
“I am happy and contented to be given this opportunity,” says Elmer’s mother. “I hope that while my son is in the program, his health gets better.”
