Vichet is a 36-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He is married and has two children—one daughter and one son. He enjoys watching football on TV and listening to the radio.
For the last ten years, Vichet has had an infected wound on his right foot. It is quite painful and makes it difficult for him to walk. The doctors at our medical partner’s care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, have diagnosed him with leprosy, a chronic disease.
Vichet is scheduled to undergo an amputation of his infected foot on March 29. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $446 to cover the cost of the operation. After treatment, Vichet will be able to live without pain.

Vichet underwent a foot amputation.
Vichet’s treatment went well. Following the procedure, he was given pain medication and he was instructed to keep his right foot elevated to prevent swelling. He had physiotherapy at CSC for one week before being discharged. His wounds have healed nicely and he does not experience any pain. Vichet feels more comfortable than before.
Vichet says, “I’m so happy with the results of the surgery. I feel less pain now. Thanks to the staff for helping me. I’m going to work again to support my family.”
